5/5 :A while back my wife and I travelled to Johannesburg for a long weekend. As it was Johannesburg, we decided not to book a car, thinking that getting around would be easy with public transport. Alas, that wasn't the case. The day after our arrival, we had already had enough. We got onto the phone, phoning every car rental in Joburg and no luck! All the phoning around, just to find out that there was a Jazz festival that same weekend and all cars were booked. Eventually, we contacted our last hope. Not only did they assist us, they went out of there way to make sure we got a car - AVIS Car Rental in Sandton. The service that they gave was excellent as they only had one car that was delivered that morning. They made sure we got it. Talk about going out of your way for a client - the car was cleaned while we were doing all the paper work. The speediness of there team was very impressive. Maxwell

4.5/5 : We arrived at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo on 24 April 2011 (Easter Day) without a reservation for a car rental (we were planning on using the Gautrain, until we remembered that you cant take the trolleys onto it, and we had tons of luggage). So, we decided to give Avis Johannesburg a try, and it was mostly a rather pleasant experience. It being Easter Sunday, there was hardly anybody there (presumably most people travel home on Easter Monday, at the end of the long weekend). We first asked for the cheapest car, and they said we could get a Kia Picanto Class A vehicle for R225, which sounded reasonable. After a bit of investigation it turned out that there weren't any Class A vehicles available, so they offered a Class M Chevrolet for R250 (for some reason Class M is the second cheapest rather than what logic would dictate, that it would be a Class B). Our 4-year-old enjoyed the wait - she lay down in the lounge area, then played with the bunny that was lying there, and was delighted when one of the Avis attendees gave her a balloon - well done Avis! When we got to the Chev we discovered that our suitcase didn't fit into the boot. So we went back to Avis and this time got a Class B Renault Logan with plenty of boot space - happiness :) In contrast to our Toyota Corolla at home, the Renault Logan feels light on the road, and it's nice that the seat's high up, and it has sharp brakes.
