If there's been any doubt about whether SAA is trying to add codeshares, let it end now. In addition to the recent codeshare agreements with Etihad, Air Seychelles JetBlue and Air New Zealand; South African Airways has now also entered into a codeshare with Tam Airlines in Brazil. SAA operates 11 flights a week from Johannesburg to Sao Paulo, but of course some people want to fly to somewhere different in South America; so they're now selling onward flights on their website (which are operated by TAM Airlines) to Brasilia, Florianopolis, Iguacu Falls, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro & Salvador. Similarly TAM is selling SAA's flight from Rio to Johannesburg and onwards to Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

Air Zimbabwe is planning on adding 2 new routes in October, Harare to Lilongwe and Harare to Lusaka, and is considering flying from Durban to Harare (where it would compete against SA Express).

Fastjet is opening a new route in Tanzania, with it now taking sales for flights from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya.
